Hi Alexander.

All fields must be declared in the EDI mapping model. The reason you are getting the error you are getting is because that 7th field is not defined, or not defined properly.

Hello Tom

I have tried EDI to xml and it works fine as in example.

But in the real EDI message it is quite possible to have some optionals fields.

For instance in your basic EDI example there is header segement:
"HDR*1*0*59.97*64.92*4.95*Wed Nov 15 13:45:28 EST 2006"
It contains 6 fields. But if there would be 7 fields Smooks throws error:

"EDI message processing failed [DVD Order][1.0]. Segment [HDR] expected to contain 6 fields. Actually contains 7 fields".

Is there workaround to make Smooks aware of optional fields inside segment?

Hi Per.

Q1: Yes... direct source to result mapping is something we are planning for the next release - see point #1 in the list of things not yet supported in JBT 3.1.0.

Q2: Can you provide more details on this please... preferably in the form of a JIRA: https://jira.jboss.org/jira/secure/BrowseProject.jspa?id=10020

Great tool! I have two questions:

- It would be nice if you could map EDI straight to XSD(not using the middle step of Java model). Is this planed for?
- I'm not able to apply XML template to my java model, only CVS. I'm using JBDS 3(early access) with Smooks UI tools version 1.1.0.v201001060655N-H50-CR1.

Well I guess the graphical mapping can get a bit hairy if your going to map real EDI-Standard Mappings ( which would extends over at least 2 screens?
But for a free Tool that looks nice so far. Have to test it a bit more with some real word data.
